Before getting started, here is the terminology we use:
An Alert is a process that starts when a specific condition for a vehicle (or vehicles) is detected.
A Trigger is a set of conditions that must be met to trigger an Alert. Conditions can include:
- Battery voltage, fuel, or coolant outside specified upper or lower limits for a specified period of time.
- RPM or speed MPH outside specified upper or lower limited for a specified period of time.
- Percent or MPH over posted speed for a specified period of time.
- Actions such as harsh breaking or hard stopping.
- Entering or exiting a specified geofence.
- Vehicle’s DTC Codes.
A Notification is a message created when an Alert is triggered and can be viewed and actioned by a user.
- Identify conditions that you want to monitor and determine the optimal operating criteria.
- Setup a Trigger with criteria defining the control limits and when an Alert should be sent.
- Receive Notifications of Alerts letting you know when conditions are outside the control limits.
- Manage the Alerts – assign them to someone, add Notes, mark as Pending or Resolved.
How do Alerts Help Me Manage My Business?
- Alerts help you to protect your assets by monitoring vehicle health, battery health, and levels to keep your vehicles in good operating order, and notify you if a problem is perceived based on Trigger parameters.
- Alerts help you to manage and protect your workers by monitoring their driving behaviors such as braking, speeding, accelerating, and driving within posted speed limits. Good driver behavior reduces accidents and awareness of monitoring encourages good driver behavior.
- Alerts help you manage productivity by tracking time spent in scheduled and unscheduled locations.
How Do I Create a Trigger that Starts the Alert Process?
Triggers are created from the Alerts top level menu, Triggers item.
See the Alert Triggers topic for information on using this form.
Note that the criteria for an Alert to be triggered includes a list of vehicles, a list of time windows, and a list of location geofences. The Alert process begins only when all the criteria are met for an event being reported by a vehicle.
What Happens During the Alert Process?
There are two actions taken during the alerts process:
A message is displayed in the line above the map indicating that a new Notification is available. If the Alert is designated at being a Priority Alert, the line also shows details about this alert in red text.
Only notifications for the current workday are shown in this list.
To view the notifications associated with the Alert, click on the envelope icon to display the list of notifications for the current workday.
An Alert Notification is also placed into the list in the Manage Alerts form. See the Manage Alerts topic for information on using this form.
What Can I Do with the Notifications on the Main Screen?
To see additional information about the Alert, click on the Open link next to the Notification. This will open the Alert Details form, displaying all the information about this Alert.
- The user can clear the Notification from their own notification list by clicking on the Hide button.
- If the user was marked as Can Clear, when the Trigger was created, they can clear the Notification from the lists of all users.
